Gas Line Project Brief Generator

Use this free tool to turn a rough gas line project idea into a clear contractor-ready brief. Add the details you know, generate the summary, then copy it into an email, quote request, Reddit post, Facebook group, or contractor message.

The generator does not design the gas system or approve a pipe size. It organizes the project details a contractor will usually need to understand the scope.

For planned and non-emergency gas line work. There's no charge to send a request.

Create a Contractor-Ready Project Brief

Fill in only what you know. Unknown items will be labeled clearly so a contractor can confirm them later.

Your Gas Line Project Brief

This brief organizes project information only. It does not confirm system capacity, pipe sizing, code compliance, licensing, permit requirements, or whether the proposed work is technically feasible.

Why Use a Gas Line Project Brief?

Gas line quote requests are easier to evaluate when the contractor knows the location, appliance or equipment, approximate distance, route, property type, existing gas service, and whether the project involves new installation, repair, replacement, or relocation.

A structured brief can also make Reddit or Facebook discussions more useful because other homeowners and contractors can see the actual project scope instead of guessing from a one-line description.

Information That Helps With a Gas Line Estimate

  • City or ZIP code
  • Residential, multifamily, or commercial property
  • Appliance or equipment being added or moved
  • Make, model, and BTU input when available
  • Approximate distance from existing gas piping
  • Indoor, exterior, or underground route
  • Whether finished walls or hardscape may be affected
  • Photos and simple measurements
  • Whether the project is installation, repair, replacement, or rerouting
  • Desired project timing

If you already have multiple contractor estimates, use the Gas Line Quote Checker to compare the written scopes. If you know the appliance input ratings, total them with the Gas Appliance BTU Load Calculator.

Gas Safety

If you smell gas, hear hissing near gas piping, or suspect an active leak, leave the affected area and contact the appropriate gas utility or emergency service from a safe location. Do not use this tool or a website quote request for an active emergency.

Request a Utah Gas Line Quote

For non-emergency work, generate the brief above and use the same information when requesting a project-specific quote.

The request form is just below.

Before you request a quote

Permits and inspections. Gas piping work usually needs a permit from your city or county building department. That includes new lines, extensions, and many appliance installations and replacements. New piping is pressure-tested and inspected before gas is turned on. Requirements vary by city. Ask the provider who will get the permit and schedule inspections, and get the scope and price in writing before work starts.

Send Your Gas Line Project Details

  1. Describe the project and the property location.
  2. The request is routed by service type and location.
  3. The provider handling the work confirms licensing, availability, pricing and project acceptance with you.

Smell gas? Leave the area now. From a safe place, call 911 and Enbridge Gas Utah at 1-800-767-1689. Don't use this form to report a gas leak.

If your natural gas comes from a different utility, or you use propane, call that company's emergency number instead.

Do you smell gas or suspect a gas leak right now? (required)

If you do, this form can't help. Leave the area first.

Leave the area first — this form can't help with a gas emergency

Natural gas has no smell of its own. An odorant is added so a leak smells like rotten eggs. Other warning signs are:

  • a hissing, whistling or roaring sound near a gas line or appliance;
  • a damaged appliance connection;
  • dead or discolored plants over a buried line;
  • dirt blowing into the air;
  • bubbles rising in standing water.

Do this now

  1. Leave the building or area right away, and warn others to stay away.
  2. From a safe place, call 911 and Enbridge Gas Utah's 24-hour emergency line, 1-800-767-1689. Don't assume someone else has called. A gas leak can't be reported online, and this website can't respond to emergencies.

Don't

  • Don't turn lights, appliances or any electric switch on or off.
  • Don't use a phone, garage door opener or flashlight near the leak.
  • Don't smoke, strike a match or use a lighter.
  • Don't start or stop vehicles or machinery nearby.
  • Don't try to turn gas valves on or off.
  • If leaking gas is on fire, call 911. Don't try to put it out.

If your natural gas comes from a different utility, or you use propane, call that company's emergency number instead.

Once the utility or emergency responders say the area is safe, you can use this site to request a quote to repair gas piping you own.

What will the gas line serve? (optional, choose any)
Property type (required)

Utah ZIP codes start with 84.

Details (optional)

Everything here is optional — answer what you know.

A rough guess is fine. Pacing it off works.

Where would the gas line run? (optional, choose any)
Before anyone digs. Utah law requires contacting Blue Stakes of Utah 811 before excavating. Dial 811 or go to bluestakes.org. Blue Stakes suggests submitting your request at least three business days ahead. Utilities mark only the lines they own, which usually stop at the meter. Gas lines, irrigation and lighting cables you own beyond the meter usually won't be marked, so tell the installer about any private lines you know of and ask whether a private locator is needed. If a gas line is hit while digging, leave the area and call 911 and Enbridge Gas Utah at 1-800-767-1689 from a safe place.
Does the property already have natural gas service? (optional)

In almost all cases the gas utility's system ends at the meter; piping after the meter belongs to the property owner.

Is the gas shut off right now? (optional)

Please don't include passwords, payment details or ID numbers.

Photos (optional)

Photos help the provider size the job. Only take photos where it's safe — never near a suspected leak. Don't include gas bills, account numbers or people in photos. JPG, PNG, WEBP or HEIC, up to 10 MB each, 6 photos in total.

Photos are shared with the provider that receives your request. Phone photos can include the location where they were taken.

How should the provider reach you?

Enter a phone number, an email address, or both. At least one is required.

We use these details to handle your request and share them with the provider that receives it. That includes any photos you attach. Don't include gas bills, account numbers or payment details.

GasLineInstallationUtah.com is a quote-request website, not a gas contractor. It doesn't do gas work. Your request goes to one independent provider that serves your area, and that provider confirms licensing, availability, scope and price directly with you. Sending a request doesn't book work, and you're free to get other quotes.
